Opmerkingen

The Banco Provincial de Santa Fé was one of several Argentine provincial banks empowered to issue their own paper currency during the decentralized banking period before the Banco Nacional took hold. Low-denomination fractional notes like this one filled a chronic shortage of small change — metallic coin supply in the interior provinces was perpetually inadequate through the 1870s, and 10-centavo fuertes notes circulated as de facto small change in local commerce.

Litografía e Fleuti operated out of Rosario itself, making this a locally produced note — unusual for the period, when many Argentine provincial issues were contracted to European printers. Provincial print quality was accordingly variable.
