Guerrero's 1915 copper issues emerged from the workshop of the Zapatista forces controlling the state during some of the most fragmented monetary conditions in Mexican revolutionary history. With federal currency distrusted or outright refused across large parts of southern Mexico, local commanders authorized their own emissions to pay troops and purchase supplies — the Zapata-affiliated Guerrero pieces being among the more systematically produced of these regional issues.

KM#637 is frequently encountered with crude striking and off-center alignment, not as a flaw but as a function of improvised production equipment far removed from any established mint facility.
