The Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia had a turbulent final decade. The bank lost its note-issuing privilege in 1894 amid severe controversy over its unchecked expansion of fiduciary emissions, yet notes continued circulating — and being issued — well into the Thousand Days War period that began in 1899. Whether this particular emission precedes or falls within that conflict's early phase is worth considering when dating examples closely.
Printed domestically by the Litografía Nacional rather than sent abroad to a European security printer, which was unusual for the period and speaks to both cost pressures and political instability that made foreign contracting impractical.
