Mozambique's lower-denomination coins have historically struggled to survive in circulation — inflationary pressure wiped out the original metical series entirely by 2006, when the country redenominated at 1000:1 and introduced the new family of coins this piece belongs to. At 10 centavos, its purchasing power in daily transactions is negligible, and most circulate briefly before being set aside or lost.
