Nicaragua's 1991 monetary reform slashed six zeros from the córdoba, replacing the hyperinflation-era currency with the córdoba oro at a rate of one million to one. This 10 centavos note was part of that redenomination series — a physical artifact of one of Central America's most severe monetary collapses, driven by Sandinista deficit spending and the costs of the Contra war throughout the 1980s.
Harrison & Sons had printed Nicaraguan currency through multiple political upheavals, giving the series a consistency of production quality that the issuing government itself conspicuously lacked.
