| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse presents a left-facing allegorical female bust of Liberty, wearing a feathered headdress inscribed LIBERTAD and a large circular earring, her braided hair flowing to the truncation which bears the engraver's initials HP. The denomination 10 CENTAVOS arcs along the left periphery and the weight 2 1/2 GRAMOS along the right, with the date flanked by two stars at the bottom of the field. Two additional stars appear at the upper field on either side of the headdress, and the design is framed by a beaded border. |

The Banco Central de la República Dominicana, established only in 1947, was still a relatively young institution when this copper-nickel series entered production. The switch from the earlier silver-content issues reflected a broader regional shift driven by rising metal prices in the 1960s — the same pressures that forced similar recompositions across Latin American mints during the decade. Dominican coinage of this period was struck under contract arrangements that sometimes shifted production between facilities, a detail that can affect surface quality and die alignment across the run.
