Obverse description The Portuguese colonial arms of Timor occupy the central field, depicting the crowned shield of Portugal surmounted by a mural crown and set within a stylised armillary sphere rendered in low relief. The colonial coat of arms features the traditional quinas and castles of the Portuguese escutcheon, with wavy lines at the base representing the sea. The territorial name TIMOR arcs along the upper legend in Latin characters, flanked on each side by a small floral ornament, while the date 1958 appears in large numerals along the lower field. The coin is bordered by a continuous beaded rim.
