Additional information

Colombia's postwar monetary reforms pushed the country away from silver subsidiary coinage during the late 1940s, and copper-nickel became the practical answer for fractional denominations. The split between KM#212.1 and KM#212.2 reflects a die modification introduced mid-series — the distinction most commonly cited involves the size of the date numerals, a change attributable to routine die recutting at the Bogotá mint rather than any policy decision.

The full fourteen-year run coincided with La Violencia and its aftermath, a period of sustained civil conflict that disrupted much of Colombia's interior but left mint operations largely uninterrupted.
