Guatemala's silver fractional coinage of this period was produced under the monetary framework established after the 1924–1926 reforms that created the quetzal system, pegging it to the U.S. dollar at par. The .720 fine standard adopted here mirrors the contemporaneous U.S. subsidiary silver alloy — a deliberate alignment that facilitated cross-border commerce with American-influenced economies throughout Central America. Silver was removed from Guatemalan coinage entirely by the early 1960s, making this decade-long run the final chapter for silver in the denomination.
