Obverse description The Ecuadorian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a condor with outstretched wings perched atop an oval shield containing a steamship on the Guayas River beneath a solar disc and the signs of Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer. The shield is flanked by four national flags and surmounted by the condor facing left. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 1942 appears in the lower field below a small decorative device. The coin's border is composed of a fine beaded rim.
