Nicaragua's silver fractional coinage of this period was struck almost entirely at the Philadelphia Mint, which held a near-monopoly on Central American contract minting during the early twentieth century. The long date span — over two decades with minimal design change — reflects the monetary conservatism imposed partly by U.S. financial oversight following the Bryan-Chamorro Treaty of 1914, under which Nicaragua effectively ceded considerable economic autonomy in exchange for debt relief.
Circulation strikes from the 1930s issues tend to show softer definition, a known characteristic of late-run dies at Philadelphia during that period.
