The Compañía Sud-Americana de Billetes de Banco was established in Buenos Aires specifically to reduce Argentina's dependence on foreign printers — a direct response to the financial humiliation of the 1890 Baring Crisis, which had exposed how badly overleveraged the country's banking system had become. The Banco de la Nación Argentina itself was founded in that same wreckage, replacing the collapsed Banco Nacional in 1891.
At the fractional centavo level, these notes circulated hard and wore out fast. Surviving examples in any presentable condition are genuinely uncommon, particularly from the earlier dates in the 1892–1896 window.
