The Banco Nacional Hondureño was a short-lived institution, operating under a government concession during a period when Honduras had no stable central bank and relied heavily on private and foreign-chartered banks to supply circulating currency. This 10 Centavos note is among the smaller denominations ABNC produced for the series — fractional notes of this kind were issued largely to address the chronic shortage of small change that plagued Central American commerce throughout the late nineteenth century.
American Bank Note Company's Honduras work from this period used intaglio printing on cotton stock sourced to their New York facility on Fulton Street, prior to the company's later consolidation.
