The Banco Entre-Riano was a provincial institution operating out of Entre Ríos, one of the Argentine Confederation's more politically turbulent provinces — still finding its footing in the years immediately following the defeat of Justo José de Urquiza's federalist project. By 1864, provincial banking in Argentina was largely unregulated, and small-denomination fractional notes like this one filled a chronic shortage of hard coin in everyday commerce.

At this denomination and from this issuer, survivorship is extremely poor. Most provincial Argentine notes of the 1860s were redeemed, worn to destruction, or simply lost when issuing banks folded without formal succession.
