Obverse description Central field features a stylised depiction of the Sun of Vergina, the principal emblem of the North Macedonian national flag, rendered as a sixteen-rayed radiant star enclosed within an elliptical frame. The motif is set against a plain inner field, surrounded by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars in the outer border, echoing the European Union coinage tradition. The curved legend MACEDONIA arcs across the upper field, with the date 2005 to the right, and the inscription PROVE TEST ESSAI appears along the left inner border.

Additional information

North Macedonia began its formal EU accession application process in 2004, and probe issues like this one were struck the following year as the country explored euro adoption specifications. The exercise was largely aspirational — accession negotiations stalled for years afterward, primarily due to the long-running dispute with Greece over the country's constitutional name, unresolved until the 2018 Prespa Agreement.
