| Additional information |
This piece belongs to South Africa's "Great British Coin Hunt" series, which recreated historic British colonial coinage for collector circulation. The Prince Edward Islands — a pair of subantarctic islands in the southern Indian Ocean administered as part of South Africa since 1948 — lent their name to the original Victorian-era issue on which this is modeled.
The South African Mint produced this as a legal tender collector restrike, not a reproduction, giving it official KM status despite its clearly retrospective nature.
