Obverse description The obverse displays the full coat of arms of the Republic of South Africa rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The arms feature a secretary bird with outstretched wings surmounting a shield charged with a Khoisan figure, flanked by ears of wheat and supported by crossed spear and knobkierrie. A ribbon below the shield bears the national motto in the /Xam language of the Khoisan people. The date 2010 appears in the upper field, and the legend SOUTH AFRICA arcs along the lower periphery in large Latin characters.
