Above the hole, a ʼPhags-pa script character group is cast in raised relief, reading vertically and denoting the cyclical-year designation Wu Xu (戊戌, year 35 of the sexagenary cycle, corresponding to 1358). Below the hole, a single Chinese ideogram 十 (shí, meaning "ten") with an associated dot indicates the denomination of ten cash. The combination of ʼPhags-pa and Chinese scripts on the reverse is characteristic of later Yuan-dynasty large-denomination cash coinage. |
