Obverse description At centre, four large Chinese ideograms arranged in a cross reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left proclaim the denomination and issuing authority. Two Manchu characters appear prominently above the central inscription, flanking the upper field. A surrounding circular legend in Chinese characters and cyclical date characters (酉己) identifies the reign, the issuing year, the Hupeh mint mark (鄂), and the Ministry of Revenue as minting authority. The overall layout is formal and symmetrical, consistent with late Qing imperial milled coinage conventions.
