Xuantong was the reign name of Puyi, who ascended the throne at age two in late 1908 following the deaths of both the Guangxu Emperor and the Empress Dowager Cixi within twenty-four hours of each other. These 10 Cash copper pieces were struck at provincial mints across China, each granted authority to produce them — hence the "with minting authority" designation distinguishing issues that carried formal central sanction. The empire had fewer than three years left when this coin was struck. The 1911 Xinhai Revolution ended Qing rule, and Puyi abdicated in February 1912.
