| Beschrijving voorzijde | Large cast brass coin featuring four bold Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged cruciformly around a central square perforation. Reading clockwise from the top: 興 (Xing), 通 (Tong), 朝 (Chao), and 寶 (Bao), together forming the reign title legend 興朝通寶 (Xingchao Tongbao, meaning 'Prosperous Dynasty Universal Currency'). The characters are rendered in a robust, deeply relief-cast style with thick strokes, occupying the full inner field of the coin. A wide, flat rim encircles the coin, and the surfaces show characteristic casting texture with no inner or outer rim ropes. The overall style is consistent with late Ming loyalist emergency coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. |
