Obverse description Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square hole (fang kong) surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform order reading clockwise from the top: 咸豐重寶 (Xianfeng Zhongbao), denoting the reign title of the Xianfeng Emperor and the designation 'heavy currency.' The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) and occupy the four quadrants of the flat, unadorned obverse field. The coin has a broad, plain rim with no additional ornamentation or border decoration.
