Reverse description The reverse presents a central square hole flanked by two Manchu script characters — ᠪᠣᠣ (Boo) to the left and ᡥᠣ᠋ (He) to the right — identifying the issuing Board of Revenue Mint (Boo-he) in Beijing. Above the square hole appears the Chinese character 當 (dang, meaning 'equivalent to') and below the hole the character 十 (shi, meaning 'ten'), together reading 當十 (dang shi, 'equivalent to ten cash'). The characters are boldly cast in a plain field with a wide, flat rim. The overall layout follows the standard Qing dynasty cash coin convention for larger denomination pieces.
