Obverse description Central field bears four large Chinese ideograms arranged vertically in two columns, reading right to left and top to bottom, denoting the Republic of China. The central inscription is surrounded by a peripheral legend of additional Chinese characters that record the denomination, regnal year, and place of manufacture (Kashgar, Sinkiang). The overall layout is characteristic of the early Republican provincial coinage of Xinjiang, with all legends confined within the coin's flat field and no figurative imagery.
