Obverse description Cast brass cash coin of the small type, featuring a central square hole surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the perforation. The reign title legend reads clockwise from the top: 同 (Tong), 治 (Zhi), 重 (Zhong), 寶 (Bao), denoting the Tongzhi emperor's heavy currency issue. The flat field is devoid of additional ornament, and the raised characters stand in bold relief against a plain background, conforming to the standard aesthetic of mid-Qing dynasty cast coinage.

Reverse description The reverse presents four inscriptions disposed around the central square hole in the traditional cruciform arrangement of Qing cash coinage. At the top and bottom appear the Chinese characters 當 (Dang, meaning 'equal to') and 十 (Shi, meaning 'ten'), denoting the denomination of 10 cash. To the left and right are the Manchu script characters for 'Boo-gung' (ᠪᠣᠣ ᡤᡠᠩ), identifying the Fujian (Fuzhou) mint. The characters are cast in bold relief within a plain, unadorned field, consistent with the small-type variety of this issue.
Reverse script Chinese (traditional, regular script), Manchu
