| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a central square hole surrounded by raised rims on both the inner and outer edges. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in a cruciform layout around the central perforation, reading top, bottom, right, left: 太平天國 (Taiping Tianguo, meaning 'Taiping Heavenly Kingdom'). The characters are bold and in relief against a flat field, exhibiting the characteristic horizontal variant arrangement. The outer rim is broad and plain. |
