| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by four Chinese characters in Seal script (zhuanshu), arranged in cruciform reading order — top, right, bottom, left — forming the reign title and currency denomination. The four ideographs 聖宋元寶 (Sheng Song Yuan Bao) are rendered in the elegant, archaic Seal script style characteristic of Northern Song imperial coinage under Emperor Huizong's era. Each character is positioned in one of the four cardinal fields around the central perforation, with the strokes exhibiting the rounded, symmetrical quality typical of high-quality Song dynasty cast iron cash. The flat field is unadorned, and the coin is bounded by a plain raised rim. |
