| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order. The four-character reign title inscription 洪武通寶 (Hóngwǔ Tōngbǎo) is arranged in the traditional top-bottom-right-left reading sequence around the central perforation. The characters are rendered in regular script (楷書, kǎishū) with bold, well-defined strokes in raised relief against a flat field. The coin has a raised outer rim and a raised inner rim surrounding the square perforation. The overall fabric is typical of early Ming dynasty cast coinage, with a broad, flat flan. |
