The Board of Revenue Mint at Tientsin was established in 1905 partly to centralize copper cash production and reduce the chaotic proliferation of provincial issues, many of which were being struck underweight and in debased alloys. This piece, catalogued without a minting authority designation, reflects the transitional administrative confusion of that effort — the central mint produced coins both with and without explicit authority markings as it attempted to assert control over a system it had not yet fully standardized.
Y#10 is among the more quietly scarce of the Guangxu copper issues precisely because the Tientsin Central Mint's operational window was short before the 1911 revolution disrupted everything.
