Reverse description A coiled Imperial Chinese dragon with fine scaled body dominates the central field, its head facing left with open mouth and flowing whiskers, clutching a flaming pearl beneath its body. The dragon is rendered in high relief with detailed cloud scrolls and flame elements filling the surrounding field. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with the English provincial and denomination legend KIANG-NAN above and TEN CASH below, separated by small six-petalled floral stops at each side. The outer rim is plain and raised.

Additional information

A mule in the truest numismatic sense — obverse and reverse dies intended for different issues were paired, almost certainly by accident, during the controlled chaos of Kiangnan's mechanized mint operation in its early years. The Kiangnan Arsenal mint was among China's first to adopt Western coining machinery, and the transitional period produced a documented pattern of die mismatches as workers managed multiple simultaneous provincial issues. Y#D140 is one of the scarcer results of that process.
