| Beschrijving voorzijde | Cast bronze cash coin featuring a central square perforation flanked by four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform fashion and read top-to-bottom, right-to-left. The legend 大中通寶 (Da Zhong Tong Bao) occupies the four quadrants of the obverse field, with 大 at the top, 通 to the right, 寶 at the bottom, and 中 to the left. The characters are boldly rendered in a slightly archaic, robust style typical of early Ming-era casting. A plain raised rim borders the outer edge, and a raised square border surrounds the central hole. The fields show the characteristic granular surface texture of sand-cast Chinese coinage. |
