| Obverse description | Central square hole flanked by four Chinese ideograms arranged in cruciform reading order, rendered in the elegant Slender Gold (瘦金体) calligraphic script attributed to Emperor Huizong. The legend 崇寧通寶 (Chongning Tongbao) is read clockwise beginning from the top character. The characters are cast in relatively high relief against a flat field, with the fine, attenuated brushstroke style of Slender Gold script clearly discernible in the angular terminals and elongated strokes. |
