| Obverse description | Central device depicts the armorial bearings of the East India Company, featuring two rampant lions as supporters flanking a shield surmounted by a crest with St. George's cross and heraldic flags. A ribbon below bears the motto in Latin: AUSPICIO REGIS ET SENATUS ANGLIÆ. The legend EAST INDIA COMPANY runs along the upper periphery, with an abbreviated authority inscription AUSP : REGIS & SENAT : ANGLIÆ arcing below, and the date appears in the exergue.
