Opmerkingen

The Banco Comercial de Maracaibo operated in a Venezuela where regional commercial banks still issued their own currency — a situation the government would move to end within a decade. The 1923 Ley de Bancos tightened federal control over note-issuing privileges, and by the time the Banco Central de Venezuela was established in 1940, private bank issuance was finished entirely. This note belongs to the last generation of that era.

American Bank Note Company produced the series from their New York facilities. ABNC's work for Venezuelan regional banks in the early 1920s is well documented, and their intaglio printing on cotton stock held up considerably better in the humid Caribbean climate than locally produced alternatives would have.
