| Obverse description | The emblem of Socialist Ethiopia occupies the central field, depicting a gear wheel overlaid with a rifle and a hoe bound together, symbolising industrial and agricultural unity, set above a shield charged with a leaping lion and crossed spears. The emblem is flanked on either side by outward-sweeping olive branches, their fronds rendered in fine relief. The Ge'ez legend reads 'ኀብረተሰብአዊት ኢትዮጵያ' (Socialist Ethiopia) arcing across the upper field. The design is executed in a clean, medallic style with a deeply mirrored proof field surrounding the device. |
