| Obverse description | Central device depicting the Portuguese royal arms: a crowned shield bearing the quinas (five escutcheons arranged in cross formation, each charged with bezants) within an ornate cartouche. The mintmaster's initials D and O flank the shield to the left and right respectively, positioned in the field. The design is rendered in the crude, low-relief style typical of cast colonial copper coinage of the period. |
