Obverse description Quartered shield of Aargau arms, displaying horizontal wavy lines in the lower left quarter and diagonal lines with three six-pointed stars arranged diagonally in the right half, flanked on either side by an outward-curving laurel branch tied at the base. The legend CANTON ARGAU is inscribed in the field to the left and right of the shield, with a small ornamental device above the shield at the top of the coin. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
