Thailand's wartime alignment with Japan had direct consequences for its currency production. With European printing houses inaccessible, the Thai government contracted Japan's National Printing Bureau in Tokyo — the same facility that produced Imperial Japanese government notes — to supply this series. The arrangement was a practical outcome of the December 1941 agreement allowing Japanese troop transit through Thai territory.
The "type III without bottom serial" designation reflects mid-run production changes made within the 1944–45 print window, serial placement being one of several variables that shifted across the series. Notes printed in Japan during this period are occasionally found with paper quality inconsistencies tied to wartime material shortages at the bureau.
