10 Baht - Rama VIII Series 4, Thomas Type II 'Thai'

Thailand's fourth banknote series was developed in the late 1930s as the country — still officially called Siam until 1939 — modernized its currency infrastructure ahead of what would become an extraordinarily turbulent decade. Thomas De La Rue produced multiple type variants for this series; the "Thai" designation on this particular type refers to the script style used in the denomination text, distinguishing it from earlier printings where certain lettering differed.

Rama VIII, for whom the series is named, was only a teenager when these notes entered circulation and was studying in Switzerland when Japan occupied Bangkok in December 1941. He never meaningfully reigned.
