Issued to mark the 120th anniversary of the Royal Thai Army, founded in 1887 under Rama V as part of a broader military modernization program modeled on European structures. The Army had been established partly in response to French and British colonial pressure on Siamese territory — a defensive institution born from diplomatic crisis as much as military ambition.
Rama IX's long reign produced an extraordinary volume of commemorative bimetallic 10 Baht issues, making Y#510 one of dozens in an expansive series that began in the 1990s.
