Obverse description Conjoined busts of two figures facing left, rendered in high relief within the aluminium bronze centre: the foreground effigy depicts King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) wearing eyeglasses and formal attire, while the background effigy depicts King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in profile. Thai script legends appear on the copper-nickel outer ring at left and right, identifying the two monarchs. The overall composition reflects the dynastic connection between Rama V, who established the Royal Irrigation Department, and Rama IX, under whose reign the centenary is celebrated.
