| 正面描述 | Uniformed effigy of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) facing left, wearing spectacles, set within the aluminium bronze centre. Thai legends arc around the effigy in the copper-nickel outer ring, reading the king's royal title to the left and his regnal designation to the right. |

The 1999 issue marks the sixth cycle birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej — his 72nd year, a numerologically significant milestone in Thai Buddhist tradition where each 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac completes a full round. Sixth cycle birthdays carry particular ceremonial weight in Thai culture, prompting commemorative issues well beyond what a standard royal birthday would occasion.
Bhumibol's reign of over seven decades made him the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history and among the longest of any head of state in the twentieth century. The bimetallic format was by this point well established for Thai commemoratives of elevated status.
