Issued to mark the centennial of the Thai Customs Department, founded in 1899 under Rama V as part of a broader administrative modernization pushed partly by foreign pressure to regularize trade revenues. The commemorative 10 Baht bimetallic format had by 1999 become the Royal Thai Mint's default vehicle for institutional anniversaries, resulting in a crowded series that has kept secondary market premiums modest for most issues.
