Issued to mark the 1992 World Food Day and Thailand's hosting of FAO regional activities, this commemorative was struck in relatively modest numbers compared to the flood of bimetallic issues the Royal Thai Mint produced through the 1990s. Rama IX — Bhumibol Adulyadej — was personally associated with agricultural development through his Royal Projects, which introduced crop substitution programs in hill tribe regions to reduce opium cultivation.
