Obverse description The Portuguese republican coat of arms, featuring the quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) over a vertically striped field, is depicted prominently in the center of the coin against a mirror-polished field. The legend REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA arcs along the upper periphery, while MACAU appears along the right side, the two inscriptions separated by five-pointed stars at each flank. The date 1982 is inscribed in the lower exergue below the shield.

Above the central device, the denomination 10 AVOS is inscribed in Latin script at the upper rim, with the Chinese equivalent 壹毫 (one dime) immediately below it. The issuer name in Chinese characters 澳門 (Macau) appears in the lower field beneath the rectangular device.
