Opmerkingen

The Austral was Argentina's attempt to halt hyperinflation after the Peso Argentino collapsed — introduced nationally in June 1985 under the Austral Plan, which also froze wages and prices. The Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, the oldest provincial bank in the country, issued its own denominated notes in parallel with federal currency, a practice with deep roots in Argentine provincial banking history.

Casa de Moneda produced this note domestically, which was routine for the period but worth noting given how many Argentine emergency issues of the 1980s were contracted abroad when local capacity was strained.
