Iceland had no mint of its own, so these were struck in Copenhagen — an arrangement that quietly underscored Danish authority over the island at a time when Icelandic home rule, granted in 1904, remained a sore and unresolved question. Full sovereignty would not come until 1944, declared unilaterally while Denmark was under German occupation and in no position to object.
The KM#1.1 and KM#1.2 varieties differ in the size of the mintmark, a detail recorded by Hede and SIEG but easy to overlook without direct comparison.
