Obverse description The Icelandic coat of arms — a quartered shield bearing a cross — is displayed at center, flanked on either side by symmetrical sprays of laurel or olive branches forming a wreath that nearly encircles the design. The date of issue appears in the upper field above the shield. The shield's quarters reference the traditional supporters of the Icelandic arms. The overall composition is rendered in a clean, restrained style with fine relief detail on both the heraldic elements and the foliate wreath.
