Aanvullende informatie

Abkhazia's status as a partially recognized state — acknowledged by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and a handful of others, but not by the UN majority — means its commemorative coinage occupies a genuinely unusual legal position in the numismatic world. The Bank of Abkhazia issues coins that function more as collector pieces than circulating currency, produced in limited runs with no expectation of international monetary acceptance. This piece marks the 85th anniversary of Abkhazian State University, founded in 1932 during the Soviet period as the Sukhumi Pedagogical Institute before eventually achieving full university status.
