Rwanda has issued gold fractional coins under licensing arrangements that allow foreign bullion designs — most notably the Canadian maple leaf motif — to appear under Rwandan authority, a quirk of modern numismatic licensing rather than any monetary policy decision. The arrangement gives small-denomination fractional gold a legal tender home without the issuing nation bearing production costs.
At 0.155 g, this is among the smallest gold coins produced to modern four-nines fineness standards.
